Korn to Tour with Brian “Head” Welch

Thursday, April 4th, 2013

Brian “Head” Welch is going out on tour reunited with Korn. Rumor has it there are several festivals in the works as well. If you’re in one of the few areas they have scheduled it would be worth the trip to go see them!!

While a lot of people shunned Head because of his whole “Head To Christ” all about the Jesus thing, I actually dug it because the tunes were killers. And not only had the Korn vibe but the tunes were better than what was coming out of the Korn camp. I dunno call me silly. But check out the video below and judge for yourself.

05/15 Belle Vernon, PA – Ice Garden Arena
05/18 Big Flats, NY – The Summer Stage At Tags
05/21 Silver Springs, MD – The Fillmore
05/22 Montclair, NJ – The Wellmont Theatre
05/23 Bethlehem, PA – Sands Bethlehem Event Center
05/25 St. Louis, MO – Peabody

Alice In Chains Stories on Artist Direct

Tuesday, April 2nd, 2013

It’s been almost 11 years since Layne Staley died. And there is no denying what a huge impact Alice in Chains had on the music world. For me personally that was a dark time in music. Being a product of hot rod musicians from the 80’s then being smacked with Nirvana, it was Aic that carried me through that period. And I have to admit that Jerry had an impact on how I write songs today.

Well the dudes at Artist Direct posted a story yesterday featuring Korn, Slipknot, and several others all discussing Alice in Chains. It’s a great read and can be found HERE…………..

Phil Ramone RIP

Saturday, March 30th, 2013

phil-ramone-

Music producer Phil Ramone, credited for production with artists such has Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Billy Joel has passed away at age 72.

As a native South African, Ramone started his musical performing as a violinist for Queen Elizabeth II at age 10. He also spent many years working as a songwriter, engineer and acoustics expert in New York which would eventually make him a go to engineer/producer for several stars.

According to Ramone’s website listing technical innovations, he was the first to use a solid-state console for recording and mastering solid state records; to use a digital live recording for Billy Joel’s “Songs in the Attic,” “paving the way for the widespread use of the compact disc in the pop music world”; and to use the fiber optics system EDNet to record tracks in “real time” from different locations for Frank Sinatra’s Duets I and II.

If you have some time I totally recommend taking a look at Phil’s website. Especailly if you’re into the production side of music at all.

RIP Phil

R.I.P Robert Zildjian Sabian Cymbal Founder

Thursday, March 28th, 2013

Robert ZildjianRobert Zildjian, founder of Sabian cymbals passed away today. If you don’t know the back story here is the write up on the wiki page.

Robert Zildjian (14 July 1923 – 28 March 2013) was the founder of Sabian Cymbals, the 2nd largest manufacturer of cymbals in the world. Robert Zildjian belongs to the Zildjian family, which brought the technology of cymbal making from their ancestral homeland in capital city of modern Turkey to the United States by Avedis Zildjian and then was passed on to future generations of the family members. The company was founded in 1981 in Meductic, New Brunswick, Canada by Robert Zildjian, son of Avedis Zildjian III, the head of the Avedis Zildjian Company. Family tradition had it that the head of the company would only pass its secrets down to the oldest son, but Avedis III gave the information to both his sons, Armand and Robert. A family feud resulted in Robert leaving Zildjian to form the rival Sabian Cymbals company. The companies continue to be rivals, and are both among the world’s most popular cymbal brands. Sabian cymbals have been used by many famous drummers in the world. The company’s name is a combination of his three children, Sally, Bill, and Andy.

You can read about it and post on the guestbook on Sabian’s website here…..

Gibson Guitars Announces Joe Perry Signature 1959 Les Paul

Thursday, March 28th, 2013

Joe Perry Gibson

Gibson announced a 1959 Signature limited run Les Paul. “It is available now in a limited run of 50 guitars aged and hand-signed by the artist, 100 aged guitars, and 150 finished in Gibson’s VOS process.” According to Gibson’s website.

This guitar is no joke and you will need to get your checkbook ready in order to pick one up. One of these beauties will set you back anywhere from about $10-$19k according to the MSRP on their website. But if you’re a fan it’s a totally cool item to get your grubby little mitts on or maybe you should wear gloves when handling it. I’m not the sharpest tack in the box, I would probably tune it to Ab and play old Korn tunes on it or something.

Here is the link to the Gibson page if you want to check further. It’s a good chunk of history on that guitar to read about at Gibson’s website HERE…..

Bernie Rico Jr Guitars Update

Wednesday, March 27th, 2013

So if you’re a guitar enthusiast you’ve probably heard of Bernie Rico Jr. Guitars. He is the son of Bernardo Chavez Rico or the founder of BC Rich. I have had the pleasure of playing a few of these instruments and I must they they are every bit what the hype says they are.

I was just recently in need of a new 7 string. And I have been desperately looking for a builder that I can bond with to make the type of guitars I love to play. My first thought was BRJ. I knew the build times were a bit long but the end product of any high end fiddle normally is. And like I said I have played a couple and they’re totally top notch.

But as of recently I noticed people saying that BRJ had gone dark. No response, orders not getting fulfilled. I personally knew a couple of cats that had worked with BRJ getting guitars built and toured the shop and met up with BRJ. So I held out. Well last night Bernie’s wife took to social media to address Bernie’s situation. I have to say this is totally sad to read and at this point one must say screw guitars just get better!! So I personally hope for the best for Bernie and his family.

Below is her statement that was posted on the BRJ Guitars and BRJ’s Facebook page.

“I am speaking to you tonight on behalf of my husband, Bernie. Bernie is currently unable to deliver this message, himself. I am not affiliated with BRJ Guitars in any professional sense, so I am unable to address any specific issues regarding outstanding orders with BRJ Guitars. In no way is this statement designed to assuage the confusion and anger those of you feel towards BRJ, or justify the extended delay on your orders. I am here to state facts, not give excuses.

Bernie is currently receiving acute psychiatric treatment in a controlled environment. By controlled, I mean that he has no access to phone, email, or basically any medium to conduct business with. Bernie has been admitted for psychiatric treatment several times since early 2012. More recently, Bernie was admitted 8 weeks ago, and his date of release has yet to be determined. My husband has developed a mental illness and is a danger to himself, and has been for some time.

As you can imagine, all of this has been devastating to our family. I have been left with a situation that I am in no way qualified to handle. I have limited and scheduled communication with my husband, so I am unable gain any immediate resolution in regards to his business. I won’t tell you to be patient, because I know that has been asked of you for far too long. I simply hope that this helps you understand why closure to this situation has been delayed, and why it will continue to be delayed.

On behalf of the Rico family, I sincerely apologize.

Teresa Rico.”
