Tuesday, January 8th, 2013

If you’re one of those over the top Layne Staley worshipping types, you probably were all about the band Mad Season.  Which honestly had some really cool stuff.

Apparently Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready and drummer Barrett Martin had promised to re-release the album “Above” with additional content.

Plans are to include 2 discs and a DVD with relase date is slated for April 16th.  This will include the original 10 song disc, 5 bonus cuts and an unreleased track and all kinds of other grunge goodieness.  A lot more detail can be found HERE… and when you’re done with that, watch the below concert of them live at the Monroe Theater ….

The Rolling Stones Might Be Headlining Coachella Music Festival Maybe Or Something

Monday, January 7th, 2013

The magical interwebs lit up today with the rumor that the Stones may be playing the Coachella music festival.  I would love to go to Coachella, the Stones seem a bit odd for that festival but what the heck!!   Apparently the rumor got started by a fan that saw the date matching Coachella on the Stones mobile app.  Now the Coachella site shows a round stone on an empty concert field   If you want you can read the rumor HERE…….

Periphery The Coachfire Chronicles

Saturday, January 5th, 2013

When I was working media with the magazine I got to spend time on a few occasions with Misha Mansoor.  It’s been really cool to watch Periphery get to where they are now.  The first time I saw them live they had just picked up their singer, started their tour and were in Des Moines, IA all crammed in a 15 passenger van basically scraping by.   But when you saw them live you knew that this was a group of players that could have a sustained amount of success with just the progressive fans alone.

So Jeff Holcomb who filled in with them and I think helped with merch for a bit documented some of their overseas tour with Between the Buried and Me as well as The Safety Fire.  The clip runs 42 minutes and chance and is named The Coachfire Chronicles.  Which was named after their bus the burnt up toward the end of the tour.

Check it out and love what they do!!

Anthrax Guitar Player Rob Caggiano Taps Out

Saturday, January 5th, 2013

When I first started to get into heavy music was in the mid-late 80’s.  I had just started 9th grade and was marching drum line.  I was a huge Van Halen fan at the time (still am).  But I met this dude named Tom who had And Justice on cassette and we cranked that in his Eurosport station wagon for weeks.  From there I was hooked on Metal.  I went from there and got my hands on everything Metallica I could get.  Next up was Anthrax, I LOVED Anthrax.

Long time guitarist Rob Caggiano has announced his departure from the band.  Below is the press release.

“I’m extremely proud of my time in Anthrax. Actually, that’s an understatement! We accomplished so many great things together over the years and I shared some of the best times of my life with these guys. As a band, we also weathered quite a few storms along the way. It’s been a wild ride (to say the least) from Day One and I wouldn’t change one single thing about the last 12 years. This is an extremely difficult and emotional decision for me to make but my heart is just steering me in a different direction right now. I’ve always been one to follow my heart in everything that I do and while this might be one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make, it feels like the right one for me at this time. Scott, Charlie, Joey, Frankie (and John Bush) will always be part of my family and this decision doesn’t change the way I feel about that in the slightest. I would also like to say thanks to all the amazing fans I’ve met and hung out with worldwide over the years. You guys always were and always will be the reason why I make music! In this day and age, being a musician isn’t always easy -also an understatement- but the fans truly make it worthwhile for me. I hope to see each and every one of you again really soon. The fact that Anthrax is at the top of their game right now and totally ‘out for blood’ after all these years is a testament to this band’s longevity and conviction! I’m truly honored to have been a part of their brilliant legacy.”

With this new direction, Caggiano very much looks forward to getting back to producing/recording/writing again in the immediate future.

“I can’t wait to get back in the recording studio again! Over the years, I’ve been blessed with the privilege of working with a wide range of great bands/artists from Anthrax and Cradle of Filth all the way to Bruce Springsteen, and I look forward to a hopeful continuation of that side of my career while I figure out my next move as an artist. BTW in case anyone was wondering after reading all of this, I do FULLY intend to get back out there on the road very soon in some way shape or form….it’s in my blood! Please feel free to follow me on Twitter @RobCaggiano for any and all updates on what I am up to.”

Dave Mustaine Hard Core on Men’s Warehouse

Saturday, January 5th, 2013

I think after having my blog rendered useless by an update I now have everything back up and running.  So you can now sit back and enjoy the worthlessness of the GearZombiee waste of time.  So, now that its the weekend and nobody is looking i’m going to spit out all the news and nonsense I wanted to vomit during the week.

Dave Mustaine, heavy metal tough guy.  You know him, the Megadeth drama queen.  Likes to fire guys, cry about Metallica, but in the end if you’re an old school metal fan you pay attention.  But don’t fuck with him!!  Ohh no!!  He has social media and he’s not afraid to use it!!

When you represent metal heavyweights and Christmas comes around I would expect to get a gift of a severed goat head, or absinthe or something.  But in this case, Dave got his manager a gift certificate to Men’s Warehouse.  But Men’s Warehouse apparently deliver the card in time and Dave got sad…  Christmas sad!!!  Below is the searing text from Dave.

“I know that not all of you have the kind of job that requires a suit,” he begins, “or wear a suit when you (if you) go to any kind of faith-based service, court date, wedding or funeral, but if you do…you are going to want to read this. You know me, I don’t complain much in writing, but I gotta get this off my chest.”

I really think that it sucks when people make false claims, that they don’t care to make good on a problem that is clearly their fault, and with all of the “ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEE IT” crap I just had to say something… I for one, will never set foot in a Men’s Warehouse, even for shelter from a blizzard.

I absolutely GUARANTEE it.

SO BRUTAL.  If you really want to read more.  You can check it out HERE………..

Newsted Soldierhead Teaser Video

Thursday, January 3rd, 2013

Happy Effing New Year. I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season. If not, I hope you can make it better with some cheap booze or craiglist hooker. Can you still get a hooker on CL? I think you have to look under lawn mowers or something now.

Well I took the remainder of 2012 off from my blogs and youtube channels. And I hope to fire back with a roar. Or at least a whimper or whine or something. So check out this web teaser for Jason Newsted’s new solo disc titled “Metal” which is due out January 8th on Chophouse Records.
