Hannah Ford Current Drummer For Prince

Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

So it’s like this…. Hannah Ford is really really really hot!! It’s not just my weakness for blondes (totally my kryptonite) I think I may have watched her vids on the youtubes before I even registered a note to my ears. She is hot if she didn’t play drums. I would be a Hannah Ford fan if she just took pictures by drums or mopeds or something. Most girls that age that look like her are busy riding their looks, but Hannah is actually a pretty killer drummer.

Now I know you may be thinking blah a chick drummer. I know this because as much as I would like to be I am not beyond this same sexist thought myself. It’s just the way it is and it’s that way for a reason. Drumming is traditionally a guy thing. And generally if you see a girl who can hold her own there is something fundamentally wrong somewhere. Like, she has time but not confidence or plays weird. Hannah is the first female drummer that I have personally watched that breaks that stereotype for me. If you’ve paid any attention to any of the music I’ve done you would know that I play pretty progressive heavy material and I wouldn’t think twice about working with a drummer her caliber.

Anyway I’ve been following her on Facebook for a while and watching her bounce from clinic to clinic, I believe her husband is a musician and I think she does some stuff there. But then all of a sudden she drops that she is the drummer for Prince. Man I get excited if my checking account isn’t overdrawn by payday and she goes from trying to pave her way to Princes band. God knows Prince has always had a way with those sexy music girl types!! So hells ya Hannah!!! Below is a vid to her killin some dubstep. Plenty of stuff on the tubes which will just make you wish you had a really hot girlfriend that can play drums. Imagine being able to go home and just get loud with your girlfriend…. All of a sudden I’m sad…. I’m going to eat ice cream and play Xbox now……

Peavey AT-200 Auto Tune Electric Guitar!! Pretty Snazzy!

Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

So most people when they think AutoTune get this terrible look on their face and think of everything from Cher to almost all of the current pop music of today. Autotune has become a 4 letter word if you will to musicians. And rightly so, today a 18-year-old girl with so so vocal ability can sound killer with just a little auto tune. Now I have always been from the camp that auto tune and pitch correct are different things. Granted it’s the same technology but if I have a singer in here and he has a killer take but slides a bit flat and it doesn’t sound good, i’m all for correcting the pitch if it betters the song and doesn’t take a way from the delivery of the vocalist. But now it’s cool to see companies are branching out with this same tech.

Peavey introduced this year the AT-200 which is a guitar with Anteres auto tune built-in. What’s cool about this guitar is it allows the most screwed up tunings to be in tune and do the tunings you want. It understands bends, and allows for any kind of custom tunings. This is pretty slick for the weekend warriors playing in the local cover bands that don’t want to screw with multiple guitars or multiple tunings just to get through the night. And at the street price of $499 that could be pretty enticing for someone in that arena. I’m going to see if I can get my grubby mitts on one so we can get a good run of Gearzombiee videos out of it!! Because I honestly want to see if I can make it screw up!! Below is a YouTube link to the guitar and also a link to Peavey as well as Musicians Friend.

Flyleaf announces new singer

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012

So Flyleaf replaced singer Lacey Sturm with Kristen May (Vedera) whom I have never heard of. Not as if that’s a shocker. But I did check them out because one thing I did dig about Flyleaf was how heavy Lacey could get. Kristen seems to have pipes but everything I found on the youtubes was pretty poppy. Maybe its just what I found! Anyway below is the press release…………………………

“New York, NY – A&M/Octone recording group Flyleaf announce the departure of long time singer Lacey Sturm today. The band’s final album with Lacey, New Horizons, will be out on October 30th on A&M/Octone Records.

Flyleaf are pleased to announce that Kristen May of formerly of the band Vedera will be stepping in as the band’s lead singer for future tour dates in support of New Horizons.

“When listening to New Horizons, I would hope that fans would be able to lose themselves in the story of each of these songs and form their own connections to them—as we have in the band,” remarked bass player Pat Seals. “There is a great deal of our souls laid bare on this record, and I feel like it really comes through on the tracks.”

Seals also commented on Lacey’s departure, “As Flyleaf begins this new cycle to introduce our third record New Horizons, we feel our fans should know that Lacey has stepped down as lead vocalist of the band. Her statement below expresses her reasons for leaving. In order to continue on with New Horizons, Sameer, Jared, James, and myself have selected Kristen May, formerly of Vedera, to assume lead vocal duties for future tour dates. We are excited for this new chapter in the history of Flyleaf, and hope that our fans will accompany us as we continue on this journey to bring hope and inspiration through our music. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the years and we are looking forward to playing for you again soon.”

Lacey commented on her departure, “I have been beyond blessed to be in Flyleaf for the past ten years, touring with 4 amazing men and the Flyleaf crew, whom I love like my flesh and blood family. They have all given so much. It took everyone on our team to make the beauty in Flyleaf possible. I am honored to have met so many wonderful people who love Flyleaf music all over the world. Your incredible stories continue to inspire me. I am very thankful to have recently become a mom to one of the greatest blessings of my life, my son Jack.

You may have also heard that we recently lost our brilliant sound engineer, Rich Caldwell, in a devastating car accident. Now, more than ever, I understand the phrase Memento Mori. I understand that, for me, living life to the fullest in this season means to step down as the lead singer for Flyleaf. I wish the best to Jared, Pat, Sameer and James and I know that as I continue to pursue the highest heights of what I am created for, it will free them all to pursue that for themselves too.

The guys will continue to tour and write music together. I’m so very grateful that they are able to do what they desire and that there is a beautiful and talented, warm hearted girl like Kristen May to sing for them. Because of this, you will all get a chance to see a new Flyleaf show and support the new album.

As I take this first step on a new journey, I pray that each one of you would pursue your highest calling with reckless abandon as well, understanding that sometimes the fullness of life comes in doing things that are only understood by you, God, and the special people God has put in your life that truly love you for you… not for what you do, but for who you are. I love you guys so much and in many ways, I will stay in touch. May God bless you all with healthy hearts, full of courage to weather the journey to your own New Horizons.”

Flyleaf has also just released the second single from the album titled “Call You Out.” The song is the follow up to the title track from the new album.

Their debut self-titled album has now sold 1.4 million units and is certified Platinum. “All Around Me” reached the Top 10 on Top 40 Radio. Flyleaf has also charted six singles at modern and rock radio.

Flyleaf’s last album, Memento Mori, debuted at #8 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. “Again” from the album went all the way #2 at Modern Rock Radio (Breaking through the #1 and #3 spots held by Muse).

New Horizons is available for pre-order beginning today on iTunes, Amazon and Official Band Store Pre-Order is going on now. CD booklets include a fold out poster with artwork inspired by Pat Seals‘ woodcarving. iTunes pre-order includes exclusive bonus track “Mama” and an instant download of “Call You Out.””

Hughes & Kettner Triamp MK II Demo

Monday, October 22nd, 2012

Hughes & Kettner Triamp MK II Demo.

Initially I could have cared less what the thing actually sounded like because it is seriously the coolest looking head on the planet!! But I never really gave it a fair shake because I picked up a 6505+ about the same time and was using that live. I found that for heavier playing this head did much better with a drive pedal in the front. In this case a TS-9 as well as an ISP Decimator. Without it, the head breaks up well at higher gain but the sound tends to squish rather than tighten up. For some that may be the sound you’re looking for, I however prefer the high and tight sound. Higher gain but super fast response no lag or squish which adding the Ibanez TS-9 does.

If blues or mid gain sounds are your thing, this would be a killer head. Very warm and appealing sound and a tone of character. This really is a great head for whatever application if you take the time to figure it out.

Trent Reznor, David Bryne Talking Major Labels

Tuesday, October 16th, 2012

Times is tough these days. Posting has become slow as my time is being chewed up by everyone on the planet other than myself. But enough about me. All of the musicians I have ever played with have at one point or another thought they were going to be a “Rockstar”. Most of my friends grew up out of that. I have a couple of buddies that have been or are working musicians and know that in general there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Even if you are fortunate enough to get into an arena odds are you’re going to be playing for a very small amount of money. The overhead is just too high.

Think about it for a minute. If you’re a working band you have to sell your disc, merch, and play shows to make money. Unfortunately all of those activities take money. Costs to record unless you do it yourself but even if you do have that, its going to have to be pressed. So you have that expense, up front merch expense, transport to gigs, maybe you play enough you need to buy a vehicle. But if your band starts to blow up all those expenses get worse. For example now most venues take a cut of the merch profits. Any enough rambling.

Here is a clip from Trent Reznor and David Bryne from Talking Heads that was just shot buy a dude in the audience. This segment is about why Trent went back to major labels and how its working for him. Pretty cool bit. If I find more of this I will surely post!
